This document (which I can produce on your behalf), is a critical piece of ANY successful project. This document should list the main requirements of the project in terms of the expected outcomes. This may be in terms of performance, supply of equipment or facilities, quality and any financial expectations or restrictions on the project.
This document is important because:
- It makes sure that your project manager is working on the objectives that you require fulfilling, and hence gets you maximum value for money
- It ensures a speedy response
TIPS:
- Circulate this document amongst your Technical, manufacturing, hygiene, procurement, marketing or Engineering teams it makes sure that every one gets involved. Failure to do this means problems later. Involving people early can give any project a good positive start and save you a lot of time (and money!) later.
- If employing a project Engineer or consultant, don’t try and tell them how to do ‘it’ (else they will just cost you money for repeating your suggestions back to you!). On the other hand, give an open constructive brief stating what the problem is and how you like the situation to be ‘in the future’ or the Project Required Outcome.
- Keep an open mind. External consultants have access too a lot of information , contacts and methods that you might not be familiar with so beware making your requirements too rigid, as your consultant Project Engineer may know a better way of achieving the project outcomes.
